Renwick MacArthur was a Lockardian, born in Lockerbie Dumfriesshire in 1923, where he learned fiddle, mandolin and pipes. He took his pipes to sea and practiced on the flightdeck of an aircraft carrier, at the opposite end from his captain!

On his return to civi street in 1946 he became a founder piper and treasurer of the Lockerbie British Legion pipe band and also took to dance playing with various local bands including Matt Davidson, Jimmy Bell, Milly Millar and Max Houliston.

He became a planning engineer in the nuclear industry and worked at Chapelcross, Trawsfynydd, Dungeness, Heysham and Torness. At Heysham he played in the Jim Maguire Irish band and with the Border Strasthspey and Reel Society, travelling ninety miles to the practices. At Torness he was a Haddington fiddler under the direction of the Reverend Alasdair MacDonnell and a member of the Edinburgh Highland and the East Lothian Strathspey and Reel Societies.He toured Canada with a section of the Golden Fiddle Orchestra under Jimmy Moir in 1980 and was a regular attendee at rallies all over Scotland.

A great supporter of the Heritage of Scotland fiddle courses, he attended the first one at Stirling University in 1978 and has enjoyed tuition and playing with the late Tom Anderson, and the late Bill Hardie also Alistair Hardie, Angus Grant, Ian Powrie and Ali Bain. He has also enjoyed sessions wih Jimmy Shand, Bobby MacLeod, Sean McGuire and Malcolm Miller at the Hoghton Band. With Jim McGuire and Stan Wardman he started the popular Pan Celtic Society in Lancaster.

Renwick passed away on 17th June 2011, 10 days before his 88th birthday.
